Atlantis Computing Accelerates Virtualized Citrix XenApp According To Independent Testing by Citrix CTP Shawn Bass

Product Review Validates Atlantis ILIO for XenApp Accelerates Performance with 53% Faster Provisioning and 77% Shorter Boot Times While Using 92% Less Storage

Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced the results of an independent product test performed by Citrix CTP and Microsoft MVP, Shawn Bass. The findings of the product review validate that the Atlantis ILIO for Citrix XenApp solution delivers 53% faster provisioning, 77% shorter boot times and a reduction in storage requirements by 92%. Based on the report by Shawn Bass, deploying virtualized Citrix XenApp workloads with Atlantis ILIO can accelerate XenApp performance, reduce storage requirements and increase density in an IO constrained environment.

Atlantis ILIO for XenApp is a software virtual machine that complements virtualized Citrix XenApp by accelerating performance, increasing server density and reducing the amount of storage required. Accelerating provisioning and boot times simplifies the management of XenApp by giving administrators the flexibility to refresh VMs more frequently with less downtime. By eliminating the IO bottleneck associated with running virtualized XenApp with SAN or NAS, Atlantis ILIO is able to increase density while delivering a better user experience.

Atlantis ILIO for XenApp Test Results Summary
In testing by Shawn Bass in a storage-constrained environment, Atlantis ILIO for XenApp was able to:
• Reduce provisioning time by 53%
• Reduce VM boot time by 77%
• Reduce storage requirements by 92%
• Provide 16% more XenApp sessions while delivering 30-100% faster response time as measured by LoginVSI

However, testing single server scalability isn’t enough to show the true value of Atlantis ILIO. To illustrate the benefits of Atlantis ILIO at scale, Shawn Bass conducted tests that maximized IOPS and throughput on the underlying storage. Atlantis ILIO for XenApp was found to:

• Increase IOPS by a factor of 60-100
• Increase disk throughput by a factor of 75
• Reduce perceived storage latency by a factor of 75

“Shawn Bass has been involved with some of the largest XenApp deployments in the world and the findings of this independent testing is further validation of the value Atlantis ILIO brings to the XenApp market,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, president and CEO, Atlantis Computing. “Atlantis ILIO will help anyone who wants to virtualize their XenApp to avoid performance problems related to storage and get the most out of their infrastructure.”

Storage Switzerland Identifies Gridstore Scale-Out NAS Solution as The Fault Tolerant Grid

Hands-On Reliability Test Reveals Gridstore’s Highly Available Storage Grid is Unstoppable

Mountain View, Calif. – Gridstore™, the leader in grid-based, scale-out storage solutions, today announced that its Gridstore 2.0 system has passed the reliability test performed by leading analyst firm Storage Switzerland, with flying colors. Gridstore’s scale-out NAS solution has now withstood four months of rigorous testing with absolutely no issues or outages.

With this latest test, Storage Switzerland wanted to find out if the Gridstore grid-based storage solution was a true fault tolerant system as claimed. “We set up a test scenario writing files continually to the test system and failed a node to see what would happen,” said George Crump, senior analyst, Storage Switzerland. “As a result of the node failure the test application experienced no hesitation, nor did we see any change in performance.”

Once the test was completed the failed node quickly re-synced itself into the grid. The re-sync process was seamless and there was no need to repopulate the restarted node from scratch. The system was able to do a quick comparison of data and it returned to operations with no business disruption, data loss, or performance degradation.

Gridstore uniquely combines virtualization with a grid processing platform to deliver a single pool of storage that simplifies management while increasing performance, scalability and reliability. Gridstore provides a building block approach to capacity scaling so customers can start small and incrementally add nodes. This eliminates the need to overprovision costly resources and removes the management complexity and risk of traditional clustered storage models.

“Gridstore’s scale-out NAS solution has stood up to the arduous testing by Storage Switzerland and the findings validate that our grid-based storage system has enterprise-class fault tolerance,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO, Gridstore. “Organizations can now choose a mid-tier enterprise storage system that delivers 3x more throughput and capacity efficiency while providing plug and play simplicity all at a fraction of the price of silo-based, legacy solutions.”

Report from Anita Borg Institute Reveals Solutions from Leading Tech Companies - http://bit.ly/Aamx4B

Recruitment of technical women involves four key areas: recruitment avenues, recruitment practices, hiring practices and overarching company practices, according to a new report published today by the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology. The report, titled Solutions to Recruit Technical Women, examines the best practices for recruiting technical women from leading technical companies and includes case studies from IBM, Intuit, Intel and Cisco.

“Many of the best practices identified to recruit technical women were drawn from our 2011 Top Company for Technical Women Workshop,” said Dr. Telle Whitney, president and CEO of the Anita Borg Institute. “The study features the details of proven best practices that are currently used to increase the percentage of technical women hired by technical companies.”

Solutions to Recruit Technical Women

The study identified numerous solutions for recruiting technical women including:

• Hold executives and managers accountable for reaching diversity goals and targets.
• Develop, maintain and project a welcoming culture.
• Re-think the meaning of “cultural fit” to broaden the talent pool under consideration and limit the effect of hidden bias.
• Revise job descriptions to reduce gender stereotypes.
• Institute a blind resume screening process to reduce unconscious bias.
• Build gender-diverse hiring teams.
• Require that every open technical position has a viable female candidate.
• Set targets to hire technical women.
• Build strong ties to conferences, universities and colleges, and professional organizations where there are high proportions of women from diverse backgrounds.

Anita Borg Institute Releases New Report on Hiring Practices to Help Companies Compete in the Global War for Technical Talent

Research-based Report Offers Proven Solutions to Overcome "Blind Spots" in Recruiting Technical Women to Increase Workforce Diversity and Innovation - http://bit.ly/zvrRgk

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology today released a new report that outlines four key areas where companies should focus their recruitment efforts to increase access to a range of technical talent available in a highly competitive environment. Solutions to Recruit Technical Women is the first in a series of reports offering solutions companies can employ to improve the recruitment, retention, and advancement of technical women.

When it comes to technical talent, industry recruitment and hiring practices have become highly complex over the past decades as the labor market for scientists and engineers has shifted from individual national economies to a truly global labor market. Multinational companies face significant challenges and competition to fill technical positions, and renewed talk of a “global war for tech talent” emerged shortly after the recent global economic downturn.

The Anita Borg Institute report points out that for both large and small organizations who invest in a recruiting infrastructure as well as outsourced recruiters and head hunters, there continue to be consistent blind spots in recruiting and hiring practices that prevent companies from tapping into the wide spectrum of technical talent available — men, women or underrepresented minorities.

Extensive organizational research indicates that these blind spots are concentrated in four areas that, if ignored, can negatively impact equity, productivity and innovation:

• Concentrating recruitment at a small number of sites;
• Narrow recruitment criteria;
• Hiring processes that are implicitly biased; and
• Lack of organizational infrastructure to support recruitment and hiring efforts that yield high returns to both talent and diversity.

Solutions to Recruit Technical Women is designed to help companies overcome these blind spots based on data-driven results in both academic research and corporate practice. The report features case studies from Cisco, IBM, Intel and Intuit, and provides strategies to enables companies to address each blind spot:

• Recruitment avenues: Companies should consider expanding recruitment channels such as reaching out to a broader array of academic institutions, developing internship programs, leveraging social networks and other ways that expand their pool of job candidates.
• Recruitment practices: Carefully examining internal recruitment practices and how they market job opportunities externally will have a significant effect on how potential talent views the company and considers whether to join a candidate pool.
• Hiring process: As companies begin to attract more diverse candidates, then it becomes important to focus on the hiring process itself to ensure a positive experience for candidates and to reduce the elimination of candidates based on implicit biases.
• Overarching considerations: Lasting change depends on a variety of factors such as implementing solutions not in isolation but in bundles, commitment to diversity from the top leadership down, setting and measuring against established goals, and longer term, helping to build the pipeline by funding or engaging in K-12 initiatives when interest in STEM educations and careers is all too often made or broken.

"The goal of our Solutions to Recruit Technical Women report is to help companies continuously improve and adjust their hiring practices and reduce barriers to attracting a diverse pool of top technical talent," said Telle Whitney, CEO of the Anita Borg Institution. "By doing so, they will see greater returns on their recruitment investment, enhance innovation levels, and position themselves to succeed in an increasingly competitive global market."

GRIDSTORE NAMED FINALIST FOR THE RED HERRING AMERICAS TOP 100 AWARD FOR ITS SCALE-OUT NAS SOLUTION

Mountain View, Calif. – February 17, 2012 – Gridstore™, the leader in scale-out storage solutions, today announced that the company has made the Red Herring Americas Top 100 short-list for its scale-out NAS solution. Red Herring is a global media company uniting the world's best high technology innovators, venture investors and business decision makers in a variety of forums: a leading innovation magazine, an online daily technology news service, technology newsletters, and major events for technology leaders around the globe. Red Herring provides an insider's access to the global innovation economy, featuring unparalleled insights on the emerging technologies driving the economy.

The Gridstore scale-out NAS solution uniquely combines virtualization with a grid processing platform to deliver a single pool of storage that simplifies management while increasing performance, scalability and reliability. The Gridstore system is designed for organizations that struggle with the risk, cost and complexity of storage sprawl and who need enterprise class storage without the problems associated with clustered storage approaches. The result is a disruptive storage platform designed from the ground up for the virtual data center that eliminates 20 years of legacy technology and eliminates the virtualization roadblocks of cost, complexity and performance that has limited wider adoption of the virtualized data center.

Finalists have made it through two of three phases. In phase one, judges eliminated companies based on viability of the business model in terms of technology focus and innovation, or lack thereof. The remainder of the companies left went through phase two, which consisted of a peer review where the judges reached out to experts, i.e., the venture capitalist community or analysts from large investment and consulting firms, to discuss the viability of a company’s business model and growth/revenue projections, the competitive landscape, and the big picture in that company’s sector.

“It is an honor to be named a finalist by Red Herring for the Americas Top 100 award,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO Gridstore. “This further validates our position as a game changing, scale-out storage solution that eliminates the complexity, risk and limitations of traditional, cluster-based storage models. With Gridstore, organizations now have an enterprise-class, scale-out NAS that delivers the simplicity and reliability they require - at half the cost of standalone NAS offerings.”

The finalists are invited to present their winning strategies at Red Herring Americas in Los Angeles, May 21-23, 2012. The top winners will be announced at a special awards dinner on May 23.

@VMware @AtlantisILIO @TrendMicro View 5 Architecture – Cost per Desktop of $172-$234, 1000 full clones 1TB storage bit.ly/xsmATg

Atlantis Computing and Trend Micro Launch First VMware View Reference Architecture that Drives Down the Cost of a Desktop to as Low as $172 with ?Better than PC? User Experience

1,000 Desktop Deployment Blueprint Includes VMware View 5, View Persona, VMware ThinApp, Trend Micro Deep Security 8 and Atlantis ILIO

VMware Partner Exchange – Las Vegas, NV – February 14, 2012 – Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions and Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global cloud security leader, today announced the release of the first VMware View 5 reference architectures for 1,000 persistent and non-persistent virtual desktops. The groundbreaking new reference architectures were developed by Atlantis Computing and Trend Micro with guidance from VMware and is the first to incorporate the latest technology from VMware View 5 including vSphere 5, View persona, ThinApp and View Planner as well as Trend Micro Deep Security 8 to secure every desktop.

This reference architecture documents the blueprint for scaling from 300 desktops to tens of thousands of users with Atlantis ILIO to drive down the infrastructure cost per desktop to $172 for non-persistent desktops and $234 for persistent desktops while delivering a rich user experience that users can embrace. The impact is a dramatic reduction of up to 94 percent in the cost of storage for VDI and a major boost in performance of View desktops.

“Successful VDI deployments have one thing in common. They are able to achieve the right balance of cost, user experience and security that is needed to compete with a physical PC and win over the CFO, the security team and most importantly the end users,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, CEO of Atlantis Computing. “Too often reference architectures are designed without consideration for cost or for critical security components like Anti-Virus to achieve better performance numbers. This reference architecture is unique because it documents exactly how to assemble the components, the cost of the infrastructure, and the performance of every application without having to bring in new hardware components to the architecture.”

VMware View 5 with Atlantis ILIO storage and performance optimization software enables customers to deploy virtual desktops at a lower cost, while at the same time boosting performance to new levels. Atlantis ILIO fundamentally changes the economics and performance characteristics of VMware View deployments by intelligently optimizing how the Windows operating system running on vSphere interacts with shared or local storage. Atlantis ILIO technologies include highly efficient processing within the vSphere hypervisor of both Windows NTFS storage IO traffic and inline deduplication of Windows images before they reach storage.

In the reference architecture, Trend Micro Deep Security 8 provides agentless security for virtual desktops without negatively impacting density or performance. The Deep Security virtual appliance integrates with vShield Endpoint APIs developed by VMware in collaboration with Trend Micro to offer the industry’s first anti-malware solution designed specifically to protect the vSphere platform without requiring an agent in the virtual machine.

“Security is a critical component of any VDI deployment and yet it is often not included in reference architectures because of the impact on server density and performance,” said Thomas J. Miller, President, Trend Micro US Commercial Operations. “This reference architecture showed that you can deliver the lowest possible infrastructure costs, an amazing user experience and leading edge security in a complete VDI solution that costs less, performs better and is more secure than a physical PC.”

Reference Architecture Results

• Cost Per Desktop – With Atlantis ILIO, the total infrastructure cost per desktop including the servers, storage and Atlantis ILIO license was $172 for a non-persistent desktop with local disk storage and $234 per desktop for a persistent desktop with shared SAN/NAS storage. Atlantis ILIO reduced the cost per desktop of the SAN/NAS by 94 percent for persistent desktops.

• Performance – With Atlantis ILIO, the architecture was able to deliver an average response time of 0.5 (local disk) to 0.7 seconds (SAN/NAS) for common applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, IE, Windows Media Player, Firefox and more. Atlantis ILIO provided 300 IOPS per desktop which is approximately 2x what a desktop PC would provide.

• Deployment Time – The testing showed that Atlantis ILIO new Fast Cloning feature enabled VMware View to deploy 1,000 persistent desktops with full clones in only 11 hours – instead of the 100 hours that it normally requires. This means that customers can deploy 1,000 virtual desktops 9 times faster in hours instead of 4+ days.

• Application Virtualization – VMware ThinApp was used to provide reliable and flexible application access resulting in improved launch times and performance.

• Security – Trend Micro Deep Security 8 provided industry leading anti-malware protections including anti-virus, integrity monitoring, intrusion prevention, web application protection, application control and firewalls without impacting the number of desktops that were used per server or degrading performance. The Atlantis ILIO virtual appliance worked alongside the Deep Security virtual appliance to handle IO storms and increase the performance of all desktops using Deep Security.

@Gridstore wins CloudComputing Excellence Award from TMCnet for their scale-out NAS storage - http://bit.ly/y8gs4J

Gridstore's Scale-Out Storage Solution Wins the 2011 Cloud Computing Excellence Award Sponsored by Cloud Computing Magazine

Mountain View, Calif. – February 1, 2012 – Gridstore™, the leader in grid based, scale-out storage solutions, today announced that the company has been awarded the first Cloud Computing Excellence Award from TMC. Gridstore was selected as one of the top 30 companies that most effectively leveraged cloud computing in efforts to bring new, differentiated offerings to market. The winners will be published in the January 2012 issue of Cloud Computing Magazine.

With Gridstore’s scale-out storage solution small and medium sized organizations enjoy simple plug and play scaling of capacity, IO and performance without the cost, complexity and 3X capacity bloat of first-generation cluster based offerings. Gridstore’s unique grid based NAS is the only scale-out solution that provides a fault tolerant system designed to withstand multiple, simultaneous failures without downtime or data loss to ensure customers can run 24/7 non-stop. Gridstore allows customers to start small and grow capacity to any size required simply by adding storage nodes to their network. This eliminates the need for customers to over provision storage and removes the risk and cost of standalone storage silos common with traditional storage approaches.

“We continue to see strong adoption of storage applications in the cloud and we are honored to be recognized for our innovation and leadership by Cloud Computing Magazine,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO Gridstore. “Receiving the top storage software award for our scale-out storage solution is further validation of our building block approach to storage that offers enterprise-class performance, simplicity, reliability and scalability – at an affordable price for any organization.”

TreeHouse Interactive™ (www.treehousei.com), the technology leader in on-demand partner relationship management (PRM) and marketing automation solutions, today announced the release of Reseller View™ PRM on salesforce.com’s AppExchange, designed for Salesforce Sales Cloud users. The new application puts enterprise-class partner management within reach of companies starting a new partner program, and those who are building out more robust partner networks to sell, service and support their solutions. Built on Force.com, salesforce.com’s enterprise cloud computing platform for building employee-facing social apps, Reseller View PRM is immediately available for test drive and deployment on AppExchange at http://ping.fm/h679O

TreeHouse Interactive’s Reseller View PRM is a complete partner management system available to those using the Salesforce Sales Cloud Professional Edition. Leading hosting provider Hostway is the first company to deploy Reseller View—launching its well-received partner program in early October. “When we set out to launch our partner program, we knew we wanted to build it on top of the Salesforce Sales Cloud we already had in place, yet really offer something special and unique to partners,” said Russell Griffin, director, channel programs, Hostway. “In addition to having a fully-customized, enterprise-class, password protected web portal, and key features like a partner locator and deal registration, TreeHouse Interactive’s Reseller View had the deep, custom capabilities we wanted to power our partner program. Working with TreeHouse to help get our new partner program up and running has been the right choice.”

“TreeHouse Interactive is committed to creating the best PRM system available for organizations that use channel sales to drive revenue,” said Erich Flynn, CEO, TreeHouse Interactive. “Integrating the channel with a company’s CRM system is a critical part of that commitment. Making the new Reseller View Aloha app available to Salesforce Sales Cloud Professional Edition users represents our continued commitment to the Salesforce CRM platform, and provides enterprise-class PRM to companies.”

Connectria Hosting Achieves ?Off the Chart? Operational Efficiency with Cloud-Based Storage Solution from Nexsan and CommVault

Global Managed Hosting Company Sees Significant Improvement in Backup and Recovery Efficiency and Reliability over Previous Solution

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., January 26, 2012 -- Nexsan®, a leading independent provider of disk-based data storage systems, today announced that Connectria Hosting, a global managed hosting company, has deployed the Nexsan Flexible Storage Platform™ in support of the company’s cloud-based backup and recovery services for enterprise clients. In combination with CommVault® Simpana® data and information management software, Nexsan’s storage systems have dramatically improved Connectria’s backup and recovery efficiency when compared to the previously deployed solution.
Connectria Hosting is a global managed hosting company that provides managed services, cloud hosting, dedicated server hosting and custom hosting services for enterprise customers. Connectria offers flexible cloud solutions that include public, private, hybrid and cloud storage options. As a growing managed hosting company, Connectria’s cloud hosting customers rely upon them to deliver high availability guarantees. To achieve superior service levels in a data center with more than 100 TB in data protection storage alone, the managed hosting company needed to improve its cloud backup and recovery infrastructure.

Connectria searched for a robust, enterprise-class solution to meet its high standards for service. They found that many storage solution companies were too unstable or uneconomical for an enterprise data center environment. Every solution, that is, until Connectria found the Nexsan / CommVault combination.

“We solicited feedback from industry colleagues and were quickly pointed to Nexsan and CommVault,” said Rusty Putzler, Vice President of Engineering for Connectria. “Everyone who had used the combination of technologies validated their reliability and performance. Once we performed a trial we agreed. Nexsan and CommVault just work. Plus, they are truly ‘off the chart’ in terms of operational efficiency and this translates into reliable, high performance services for our enterprise customers.”

With the help of their deployment partner, EAGLE Software, Connectria has deployed multiple Nexsan SASBeast™ and Nexsan SATABeast™ storage solutions based on the Nexsan Flexible Storage Platform. To support the backup and recovery operations for the data housed on these systems, Connectria selected CommVault Simpana data and information management software. Connectria achieved significant efficiencies with the combined solution by reducing IT resource requirements, simplifying management and lowering operational costs. This was supplemented by enhanced reliability, technological innovations and advanced power management, providing up to 60% energy savings compared to the previous solution.
“For Connectria, achieving a high-efficiency data center design was critical,” said Dave Hiechel, President and CEO, EAGLE Software. “The combination of Nexsan and CommVault technologies achieves this efficiency and more. The powerful combination gives Connectria a distinct advantage over its competition in terms of both performance and reliability.”

Key benefits Connectria receives from the new Nexsan / CommVault solution include:

· High performance RAID storage systems that are ideal for disk-to-disk backup and recovery operations, especially when leveraging fibre channel-based interfaces
· Energy-efficient AutoMAID® Level-3 technology which enables Connectria to spin-down the disk arrays when not in use, providing significant energy and cost savings
· High density storage, enabling Connectria to conserve valuable rack space in its fully populated data center
· CommVault Simpana software to provide a single unified data protection platform for a more modern, secure and efficient cloud-based approach to data recovery
“Cloud-based managed hosting services are on the rise and providers such as Connectria need enterprise-class, high-value solutions they can rely on,” said Victoria Grey, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Nexsan. “Together, Nexsan and CommVault offer a distinct combination of price, performance and reliability for operations in the cloud. It’s truly the ultimate in efficiency with uncompromising performance.”

The New Partner Marketing Enablement

Marketing assistance is one of the most requested benefits that partners ask for from the companies they represent. CRN’s Annual Report Card found that resellers value “channel enablement” more than anything else. This is echoed by Everything Channel’s recent recognition of “Channel Champions,” all of which have implemented partner marketing enablement in their programs.

So what new trends are there in partner marketing enablement? How can you best help partners that are typically sales focused, have small marketing staffs and limited technical or financial resources? Here are some things partner programs are beginning to offer to stand out:

1. Automated co-branding of collateral
2. Full service co-branded campaign execution
3. Partner microsites

@AtlantisILIO Launches Industry’s First Diskless VDI Solution That Eliminates Storage - CAPEX below $200/desktop http://bit.ly/xpDcvt

Atlantis Computing Launches Industry?s First Solution That Eliminates Storage for VDI

Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI Cuts CAPEX to Under $200 Per Desktop with Boot Times of 12 Seconds

Mountain View, CA – January 16, 2012 – Atlantis Computing™, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced the release of Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI™, the first solution to eliminate storage for Citrix and VMware virtual desktop images. Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI enables customers to reduce VDI CAPEX to under $200 per desktop and eliminates all storage related CAPEX and OPEX, while at the same time providing a stellar user experience with desktop boot times of 12 seconds.

In November 2011, PAETEC Communications with over 4,000 employees (now a Windstream Company – Nasdaq: WIN), purchased Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI and the Cisco UCS Blade System with Extended Memory Technology (EMT) for their Citrix XenDesktop VDI deployment.

“We chose the Atlantis ILIO solution as well as the Cisco UCS B230 M2 blades because together they gave us the best possible combination of performance, low upfront CAPEX, and lowest possible OPEX," said Steve Bell, Infrastructure Systems Architect, PAETEC Communications (now a Windstream Company). “As a result of Atlantis ILIO and Cisco UCS, our virtual desktop solution costs less than a workstation or laptop, provides a better user experience, and was able to reduce or eliminate our storage, network, power, cooling, and rack space CAPEX and OPEX costs more so than any other VDI offering. From a storage perspective, we wanted to eliminate the reliance of VDI on SAN/NAS storage while at the same time not sacrificing and perhaps even improving overall user experience. We considered local SSDs as well as PCI based RAM drives, but these solutions by themselves either drove up VDI costs, reduced the number of virtual desktops, or proved to be inferior to Atlantis ILIO optimization capabilities. We found the perfect solution with Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI combined with Cisco UCS, which will make it possible to eliminate all disk-based storage and run upwards of 160 Citrix XenDesktop virtual desktops on each blade.”

PAETEC is deploying 160 virtual desktops per Cisco B230 M2 blade using the Atlantis ILIO software virtual appliance in combination with Citrix XenDesktop. With Atlantis ILIO optimization, PAETEC will be able to deploy up to 6,400 virtual desktops in a single rack of Cisco UCS blade servers without the need to purchase any disk-based storage, SSDs, or PCI based RAM drives for VDI.

“Many VDI deployments have been put on the shelf or stalled because of the high cost of storage which can eat up to 80 percent of the total VDI budget,” said Deni Connor, principal analyst, Storage Strategies NOW. “Storage optimization solutions like Atlantis break that choke hold by enabling the deployment of VDI with much less storage, or by eliminating disk-based storage all together.”

Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI software works with all virtual desktop solutions to eliminate the use of storage for non-persistent virtual desktop deployments, while boosting performance to new levels. With existing VDI solutions, virtual desktop images are stored on either shared SAN/NAS storage or local SAS/SSD disks, which are costly, have limited IOPS for VDI workloads and can have short lifespans/warranties. Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI is software that performs NTFS traffic processing and inline deduplication of images to run all desktops from local server memory. There are no more disks to fail and no rack space, power and cooling required for storage. Diskless VDI results in response times that are faster than even the most expensive local SSD drives (MLC or SLC) and reduces the cost of a virtual desktop below that of a physical PC.

“This is the first time that anyone can deploy VDI with no storage for virtual desktop images,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, President and CEO, Atlantis Computing. “In addition, when users experience a virtual desktop powered by Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI, they are immediately won over by super-fast boot times and applications that launch near-instantly.”

Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI Benefits Include:

• Unmatched Performance – Dramatically improves all aspects of desktop performance including boot, login, application launches, patching and anti-virus scanning.
• Lower Cost – Using Atlantis ILIO and Cisco UCS Extended Memory, customers will drive down the cost per desktop from both a CAPEX and OPEX perspective:
o CAPEX – The upfront cost per desktop can be decreased to under $200 per desktop including the server hardware, Atlantis ILIO license and storage.
o OPEX – Diskless VDI architectures mean that IT organizations can lower operating expenses by eliminating rack space for SAN/NAS storage, lower power consumption and cooling costs, and eliminate the operational expenses of maintaining disk-based storage including replacing failed disks.
• Increased Lifespan– Memory does not suffer from the lifespan issues SSDs have when dealing with write-intensive VDI workloads. Diskless VDI architectures have lower operational costs as disk failure and replacement have been completely eliminated.

@Gridstore Names Storage-Industry Veteran, @GeoffBarrall as Executive Chairman of the Board http://bit.ly/zRdLpU

Gridstore Names Former Drobo CEO and BlueArc Founder Geoff Barrall as Executive Chairman of the Board

Industry Visionary Brings Key Insight, Innovation and Leadership as Gridstore Sets the Standard for a New Generation of Scale-Out NAS

Mountain View, Calif. – January 11, 2012 – Gridstore™, the leader in grid-based, scale-out NAS, today announced that Geoff Barrall has been named the company’s executive chairman of its board of directors. The storage-industry veteran and visionary brings decades of insight and leadership in creating disruptive storage solutions and building highly successful new markets opportunities for the SME to the enterprise. Barrall will play an integral role as Gridstore continues to set the standard for a new generation of scale-out NAS.

The appointment of Barrall is a strong validation of Gridstore’s innovation and ability to execute and deliver the industry’s next generation of scale-out NAS. Gridstore uniquely combines virtualization with a grid processing platform designed from day one to deliver a single pool of storage that simplifies management and increases performance, scalability and reliability verses traditional clustered scale-out NAS at a fraction of the total cost. Gridstore provides plug and play capacity and I/O scaling so customers can start small and incrementally grow to any size they require. This eliminates the need to overprovision costly storage resources and removes the complexity and waste associated with clustered NAS solutions.

“I've been looking at scale-out storage solutions for many years and every product has been fraught with low performance and high cost caused by the clustering model that has been universally used,” said Geoff Barrall. “When I was introduced to Gridstore my first thought was, ‘Here is a company that finally has it right’. It's simple, elegant design allows for a much higher level of performance and scale than cluster-based solutions, while requiring a fraction of their cost to maintain. I'm excited to join Gridstore's team as the company actually delivers the promised benefits of scale-out storage to the market.”

Formerly the chief technology officer and vice president of engineering for Overland Storage, Barrall brings years of experience and contacts in the areas of product strategy, marketing strategy and technology consulting to his new executive chairman role at Gridstore. During his time at Overland the company grew its market share and continued to lead the market with technology innovations for more scalable and reliable storage solutions.

Prior to his position with Overland Storage, Barrall was the founder and CEO at Drobo (formerly Data Robotics), an innovate storage platform designed for the SOHO market where he rapidly grew sales from zero to a $40 million annual run rate within just ten quarters of initial product launch. Prior to Data Robotics, he was founder and CTO of BlueArc, an enterprise storage company acquired by Hitachi Data Systems.

“Gridstore is at a pivotal growth point and we are delighted to have Geoff on board as executive chairman,” said Kelly Murphy, CEO, Gridstore. “He brings an amazing track record in growing highly successful storage businesses with solutions that have made a huge impact on the industry. While Gridstore brings the next generation of scale-out storage to the market that eliminates the cost, complexity and waste of cluster based solutions - adding Geoff’s experience, leadership and vision will accelerate the impact our products will have in changing the storage market.”
